From Plan to Progress

The Lahaina Long-Term Recovery Plan (LTRP) was created through extensive community engagement and serves as the foundation for Maui's long-term recovery from the August 8, 2023 wildfires. Developed through the voices, experiences, and priorities of residents, cultural practitioners, businesses, community organizations, and partners, the plan reflects a shared vision for rebuilding Lahaina and supporting recovery across Maui County.

Recovery is an ongoing process, and the work continues to evolve as projects advance, conditions change, and new opportunities emerge. This platform builds upon the LTRP by tracking implementation progress and showcasing the wide range of recovery, rebuilding, and resilience initiatives taking place across the island. The information reflects a broad recovery landscape, highlighting recovery efforts and investments advanced through complementary initiatives, including the CDBG-DR Action Plan and Maui Economic Recovery Commission (MERC).

The LTRP remains the guiding framework for recovery. This dashboard serves as a living companion resource, providing transparency and accountability while documenting the projects, programs, investments, and partnerships that are helping bring the community's vision to life. As recovery continues, this platform will evolve alongside the community it serves, offering an up-to-date view of progress, milestones, and the ongoing work of renewal.

Opportunities

Hundreds of houses, sites, jobs, monuments, and people were torn/broken from the Lahaina fires last August.

I feel that creating the exact building structures will not create the same feelings that the Old Lahaina town did for everyone, especially for people who lived there. However, I am hoping that replicating the previous monuments, stores, and scenaries will attract visitors from around the world once again as it shows what the Old Lahaina town used to look like. Feelings of distress may arise if locals realize that historic areas of Lahaina were not even attempted to be rebuilt as well.
